I made a vow years ago, that if it cannot be eaten, or if it is not natural then I don’t want it in my hair or on my skin. And so, I found that many food products in my kitchen are also excellent ‘beauty’ products. Raw honey is one such product. It is antibacterial and a humectant (it helps your hair to draw in and retain moisture), what better combination could one ask for?
Raw honey is rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant properties and has diverse uses as a natural remedy. It is a remedy for all sorts of ailments, from treating the common cold to healing wounds to improving skin conditions. With all the uses and benefits of honey, it is no surprise that it can be of great benefit to our hair too.
Here is a DIY honey mask for your hair. Regardless of your hair type this honey mask will bring any dry damaged hair back to life with luster and shine! Can you imagine how wonderfully moisturized your hair will be?
The benefits of using honey in your hair mask are:
- Reduces hair breakage
- Moisturizes hair
- Restores shine
- Help to reduce frizz
- Softens the hair
- Helps with hair growth
- Promotes a healthy scalp
With all that said and the many other benefits of honey. Let’s take a look at this hair mask.
You will need the following ingredients/items:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup virgin olive oil
- a shower cap
- a mixing bowl
If you don’t have a shower cap, you can always improvise. A plastic bag will definitely do the job too.
Instructions:
- Start with freshly shampooed, clean, damp hair
- Pour the honey and olive oil into a bowl and mix them well.
- Heat the mixture until it is warm. Ensure it is not hot to cause any burns.
- Apply the mixture to your hair, starting from your scalp working your way down to the end.
- Gently massage it into your scalp
- Place the shower cap on your head
- Leave for about 15 minutes
- Rinse the mask from your hair
You may follow up with your regular conditioner if need be. I find that most times it is not needed, but you may want a conditioner as detangling assistance. It is entirely up to you! Either way, your hair will feel moisturized and divinely blessed!
